Social media is ever changing. It is never static, and there has been a massive change or evolution in many ways for the Social media in the year 2013.

One of the most significant change that has happened is- in 2013 social media has become more and more visual – the image based platforms like Instagram and Pinterest have become more popular and has been used not only by personal consumers, but has also profoundly influenced the eCommerce and social media marketing trends.

Another growing trend or change in social media is that it is becoming more and more mobile, and this does not include just Smartphone’s, but tablets and all other types of mobile devices. “The main evolution for social media in 2013 is mobile,” says Fiona Harkin, Stylus’ Senior Vice President of Content. The last quarter of 2013 saw a swell in mobile apps specifically designed for consumers. According to NBC News, the number of Facebook users that began accessing the site through tablets and Smartphone’s jumped to 24% from June to September 2012–and has crossed 30 million in 2013.

Social media users now demand that these platforms must provide them with entertainment. 88% of people want that the social media must be also an entertainment platform, according to a recent survey by LA-based entertainment industry publication The Hollywood Reporter. The consumers want it all in social media – from TV to music to videos or films.

Social media is revolutionary

Another trend that is steadily gaining ground is the mounting awareness of privacy on social media. For example, Facebook users recently are demanding more security and are becoming more cautious of the ways in which their ‘data’ is being used. As a result, there is an increase in sharing apps that cater to consumers’ privacy concerns; the best example is the Warner Bros app, Out My Window, which has the option of private sharing. Pinterest has also recently launched private boards, and there are even apps that encourage disconnection from social media for privacy.

The social media is moving in a fascinating way, and all that needs to be done is to just watch and enjoy all these developments.
