In a post on their blog last Friday afternoon, Instagram announced it’s integration of paid advertising to it’s users news feeds. Instagram explained that it is all part of trying to build a sustainable business.
“In the next couple months, you may begin seeing an occasional ad in your Instagram feed if you’re in the United States. Seeing photos and videos from brands you don’t follow will be new, so we’ll start slow. We’ll focus on delivering a small number of beautiful, high-quality photos and videos from a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community.”
While the change brought some angry comments from users, it’s hardly surprising that Instagram is moving to advertising, especially given they were bought out by Facebook. Instagram have assured users that the advertisements will be a seamless integration and if they don’t like an ad, they can simply hide it and provide feedback to help improve the Instagram experience. They also plainly pointed out that users still own their own photos and videos and the introduction of advertising will not change any of this.
How do you feel about the introduction of Ads to your Instagram feed?
