Last year Oxford Dictionaries named the 😂 (Face with Tears of Joy) its 2015 Word of the Year, so let’s face it, Emoji’s have taken the world by storm, but now we’re heading into the realm of emoji jewelry.
Since they were released in the late 90s, Emojis have evolved to be used in everyday conversations, even replacing the use of the English alphabet at times.
Now there’s a new way to share your favorite Emoji that’s technology free – by wearing it as jewelry. I know what you must be thinking – what the? But they’re not as tacky as you might be imagining.
Take Alison Chemla’s line of gold emoticons for instance. This 27-year-old Manhattan native launched her label in 2012 and the unique 14-karat gold pendants are so popular that they range from $200-$10,000.
“Surprisingly, a huge part of my clientele is older women,” Chemla told TheDebrief.
“I think because the quality is so high, and from afar my ‘Screw U’ bangle, for example, doesn’t really look like ‘Screw U’, it just looks like a stacking bangle.”
Chemla was also announced as a designer to “look out for” by Elle, as she debuted this year at New York Fashion Week.
The consensus seems to be that many are loving the Emoji jewelry trend, so it’s no wonder other designers are cashing-in.
