Early research on the subject from Nielsen and SocialGuide says yes.

Pinterest Popularity Surge

According to a recent study by PEW, users are using Pinterest just as much as Twitter.

Twitter attracted 16% of social media users, followed by 15% on Pinterest in 2012.

PEW’s report states, “Those under 50, and especially those 18-29, are the most likely to use Twitter. Urban-dwellers are significantly more likely than both suburban and rural residents to be on Twitter.”
